There are different types of DIY methods that can be used to identify your skin type. However, we will be using the bare faced method because it is easy to follow (because it requires no technicality), simple (because it requires no additional instrument), cheap, accessible, and available.

So, let’s identify our skin type using the bare faced method, step-by-step.

  • Step one: wash your face with a mild “baby” soap.
  • Step two: Gently pat your face dry with a clean cotton towel.
  • Step three: Leave your face bare and do not apply any facial product.
  • Step four: After 30 minutes, examine your cheeks, chin, nose and forehead for any shine or tightness when you make facial expressions.
  • Step five: Write down your observation.
  • Step six: Wait for another 30 minutes and examine your cheeks, chin, nose and forehead for any shine or tightness when you make facial expressions.
  • Step seven: Write down your observation.
  • Step eight: compare your final observation/result with the following parameters.

If there is shine on your cheeks, forehead and nose, you most likely have oily skin.

If there is noticeable shine on your chin, nose, and forehead, your skin is mostly likely a combination skin.

If your skin feels tight and/or appears flaky, or rough, you most likely have dry skin.

If your skin has a healthy glow with no visible issues, then you likely have a normal skin.

Step nine: Note your result and share with us via Twitter, Comments or Email.

Story Time

I remember the first time I wanted to check identify my skin type, I forgot to check back after the second thirty minutes because I remembered that I hadn’t started my pharmacology report, and we were asked to submit the following day.

Omo, I forgot about my skin. But my second time was bae and I found put that I had a dry skin on my body and a combination skin on my face. It was an eye-opening moment for me.
